That was more about my observations over the last while as someone who is quite
new to this type of community, and has read mire email threads in the last
several months then I care to admit, lol.

My goal in this has been achieved, which is getting enough interest in linking
to books.

The HOW aspect is the real point of contention and I feel both methods/mindsets
stem from the very valid vision of the ideal community. This thread is going to
set a major precedent and I'm starting to think we should open this up to the
larger list as we are ultimately discussing how close we are willing to get to
non-ASF materials.

I see this as similar to the case studies, and nascar user page discussions.

Despite the willingness of people to cast 0 votes, it is obvious that there are
strong and valid feelings towards both sides of our current HOW options.

I now have a moral dilemma... Should I try and work with others to bend the community into a more sales/product ecosystem driven approach, or temper myself to the dev-centric code-first OSS neutrality mentality.

I don't think this is an "either/or" situation. What's needed, IMHO, is an approach that promotes the technology and community, and eschews corporate branding and sales mentality.
