Which background color do you mean? Just yesterday I set the Composer background color (which is used everywhere in KMail and not only in the composer as background color) to black and the Normal text color to white and the print out was black on white.

Furthermore there is this code in kmreaderwin.cpp

((mPrinting) ? QString("body { font-family: \"%1\"; font-size: %2pt; " "color: #000000; background-color: #FFFFFF; }\n")

which definitely sets black as text color and white as background color.

So the code looks correct and it works correctly for me.
