So do you think a symlink from ~/mail/blah to ~/mail/inbox/.blah will solve it or are there some other things i have to set up?

No. You should simply use your IMAP clients to create folders, then adjust your mail delivery scripts to deliver mail to MAILDIR/.foldername.

I'd say it's safest to do it as Sam advises: i.e. * create folders from IMAP client * mv ~/mail/blah/cur/* ~/Maildir/.blah/cur/

If you wanted to move the whole folder in one go, you'd need to beware of the rules for Maildir++ with folders inside Maildirs (in particular the presence of the 'maildirfolder' file). See: http://www.inter7.com/courierimap/README.maildirquota.html

You should update your bookmarks. I do not maintain the archived pages on inter7.com any more.

All the current stuff is on http://www.courier-mta.org, i.e.:

The stuff hasn't really changed, but let's keep all the links current.
