Which brings me to the obvious question, has anyone tried 3rd party XENPAK modules in the 10GB blade?

Cisco has locked SFP and Xenpak so you only can use Ciscos own optics. So the answer is NO to 3rd party Xenpaks.

Complain loudly to your SE about it, not that it will do any good since they have heard this a thousand times before.
