The fault is really with Suse. If it doesn't use FAM, it should NOT even install the client libraries. It is a packaging error to install the client libraries, but not the server.
Thanks Sam. Probably the admin's fault (yours truly) more than Suse's. ;-) I just installed fam-server, set it up, and everyone is happy.
On a lark I removed the fam development libraries from my build machine, commented out the BuildPreReq for fam-devel and rebuilt the rpms. The new imapd works fine except, of course, that there's no advanced idle. Is there some lurking problem out there that's going to hit me? We have a really simple setup - no shared folders or anything like that. Just mail coming in and about 20 office clients each reading their own boxes using IMAP.
