From Sorin:

Hi Mark, I am wondering if you have worked around the proxy problem. Thanks!

Hi Sorin, 1. answer here and NOT to my email adress. 2. i have no workaround and still waiting for Christopher Vander Mey answer.

hi,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_server#Transparent_and_non-transpa...

"A 'transparent proxy' is a proxy that does not modify the request or response beyond what is required for proxy authentication and identification. "A 'non-transparent proxy' is a proxy that modifies the request or response in order to provide some added service to the user agent, such as group annotation services, media type transformation, protocol reduction, or anonymity filtering."

I mean i have a "Forced proxy". So i have to configure the manual proxy settings in my apps to use the internet with my browser.

In Windows XP, if you enter some proxy server settings inside the IE7 configuration, it will be automaticly the default systemproxy. if a applications is programmed to recieve the system proxy, it will get the entered settings out of the IE settings.

For FF for example i have to set my proxy config manualy.

Hi Mark, just to clarify some terminology, what do you mean by a "non- transparent" proxy and what do you mean by "default system proxy"? Anyway, is the what you call "non-transparent" proxy set as "manual proxy configuration" in FF or a proxy server in IE? Thanks much!

Hi Google!

I've downloaded the GoogleGearsSetup.exe one minute ago. After i launched the exe file, the GoogleGearsInstaller comes up with a empty progress-bar. After some time, a error message comes up:

"Installer download failed. A connection with the server could not be established" Screenshot:http://i24.tinypic.com/2nsomkm.jpg

The problem is i have to use a non-transparent proxy server. The proxy adress and his port is added in IE7 and latest firefox. so if the setup routine try to find the default system proxy, i can tell you: there is problem ;)

please get back to us with a working solution.
