Santhosh, libz.so is a gzib library. So try installing gzib library. If it is sun box get it from www.sunfreeware.com

Hi Jochen, Thanks for responding. I do not have the libz.so in usr/lib or anywhere. I am not sure how i am supposed to get this file. is this part of client and development files of the mysql server? Thanks, Santosh

Where is your libz.so located? In a standard location like /usr/lib or elsewhere? If the latter:
Search the mailinglist for problems related to libmysqlclient.so. Try to reproduce the solutions with libz.so.
