The bizarre thing is that after rebuking me and others who asked for REPAIR and OPTIMIZE, the MySQL-Front people actually included those functions in a later release. That did not, however, change their rude, arrogant manner.

As a new user to MySQL, so new in fact I have a server but no db and tables yet due to still preparing the environment. I find this thread interesting in as much as I have used MS Access with it's Compact & Repair option. They are functions you cannot do without for a multitude of reasons of why a corrupted db should be repaired. Access tables do bloat, you do need Compact. I see no reason why Optimize and Repair should be 'not implemented' in an Administrative front end when there is obviously a clear need for them.

I bought a MySQL-Front license ... wouldn't do it again.

It did not support features the list of features on their website claimed to support (OPTIMIZE and REPAIR of MyISAM tables), and when I raised objections, they were just downright rude (both in their forum and via e-mail).

One of their programmers even said ... "a (sic) serios developer uses an other database type if MyISAM has problems like this or writes a feature in his application to handle this problem ... to optimize a lot of tables (sic) manualy is not a serious way ... "

Check out http://www.mysqlfront.de/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=157, and see if these are the sort of people you would want to do business with.

It took them a month to issue me a registration key, and I still have not received the disk I ordered (and paid for).

I prefer SQLyog instead (http://www.webyog.com).

Hi All

As there seems to be loads of programs on the MySQL web site, but no explanations as to what each one does, could you please give me your opinion as to what you think the best (and free) Win32 MySQL admin program is and where I can get it.

I'm used to SQL Server's Enterprise Manager so I've been a bit spoilt.

Many thanks.
