Subject:[c-nsp] Another ADM Question - OC12'sActions...

I have a Data Center in one city that I will be connecting to equipment in another city via two OC12s. I would like to transport customer T1s, PRI, DS3s, OC3, Fast E and Gig E over these two OC12s. [snip] I was thinking than an ONS 15454 may be the route to go, but I want to make sure it can do what I need it to do.

If the ONS box is the best route - does anyone know if they are available on the used market..?

The ONS equipment (chassis and linecards) are available used at reasonable prices. They are good boxes and can do all that you ask (although I've never seen the Ethernet cards used, but OCxxx, and TDM (DS3, T1, etc.) cards are always available when I look). You might need to look for "Cerent" to find the older model parts.

The ONS boxes can run of space for the port modules on the unit if you need a lot of different TDM services in one box. It might be better to take a DS3 out of the ONS with the OC12(s) coming in, and then take that DS3 to a seperate ADM to split out individual T1s and PRIs. That way you won't waste a lot of space on the ONS with ports that you might only need a few of, since the ONS port modules come in fixed sizes. It really depends on how much of each service you need to break out -- one ONS box may well work for you.

If you want another option, Fujitsu makes a similar unit (I think it's the Waverunner, but it's been a while since I've used one so I might not be remembered the name correctly). It basically does the same things as an ONS. I *never* see used Fujitsu stuff though...

BTW, sometimes a single OC48 is cheaper than 2+ OC12 circuits. It might be worth checking before you deploy equipment.
