You should get latest thread patches from your Sun distributor.

Yes, but you should still check your libs with some FreeBSD expert.

And you could try running binaries from MySQL pages.

Unfortunately there is not a FreeBSD 3.3 binary.

Yes, but there is one for Solaris. And may be some good FreeBSD soul might make a binary for you.
