I'm seeing this when attempting to deliver error/bounce messages to a specific sender. Is it possible that the destination server doesn't recognize the message as a DSN and so complains about the from=<> ?

I'm running courier 0.44.2 under linux

possibly yes, to find out for sure, use telnet

#telnet servername 25

ehlo fqdn.com < response mail from: ...
