I'm setting up a new Perforce server for use by my group, and I'm looking for some advice about hardware selection. I plan to run p4d on a Linux system, and I have temporarily installed it on a P90 that I had laying around. I expect to have about 30+ users pretty soon, and based on experience with our previous revision control system (SourceSafe), I want to set up a reliable, high-performance server that will serve my group well for a long time to come (with emphasis on "reliable"). I'm looking for advice on a few things:

1. Does anybody have experience using p4d on a Linux-based multiprocessor system? Since p4d fork()s itself for each incoming request, it seems to me that it should naturally benefit from multiple processors during times of peak load.

2. Does anybody have experience using p4d on a Linux-based server with a hardware RAID-5 controller, such as one of the DPT or Mylex ones? I'm considering using a RAID-5 disk array primarily for fault-tolerance, but I wouldn't mind the performance increase, either.

3. Does anybody have any experience (either goor or bad) with VA Research (a company that provides pre-assembled and installed Linux-based workstations and servers)? I would prefer to get a pre-configured system, rather than building one myself.

Thanks for any advice, you can offer!
