What you're failing to recognize is that the large majority of users don't have any of these assets, and will never have any, and yet still have to deal with the incredibly annoying password expirations.
Oh, it's worse than that. After all if a developer is going to illicitly share his password in order to give away assets, having to email his partners after being forced to change password is not much of a deterrent. So in effect the constantly expiring passwords only accomplish one thing: annoying users. They are not good for anything else at all.
