As you can see nginx was at the beginning of the year the leader ;-)

Netcarft survey counts virtual hosts. They do not correspond to the real installations. For example, there is the large free-hosting Russian site narod.ru ("narod" is people or nation in Russian). It uses Apache with a "Server" header changed now to the "Labudos/X7 (Unix)". Netcraft shows 20,422 sites: http://survey.netcraft.com/Reports/200611/byserver/Labudos/index.html although that is couple of dozens of machines only.
