Well, I don't know how many people "very few" is, but I do know, that as an alternative to MS-Exchange, IMAP server storage is finding more and more use amoung my clients and clients of those I network with.

Just as a reminder, MS Exchange is actually an IMAP server. (Albeit, one with extensions.) -- Not that I like their server implementation nor their client (Outlook) either one... but IMAP isn't exactly an "alternative" to Exchange. :)

Many companies are requiring their servers configured in a way to capture ALL outgoing mail and record it for posterity, security, snooping or whatever, and on any given day this counts for 1000's of messages. [...]

However, I just *have* to comment on this item....

People are *_seriously_* using IMAP mailboxes to store all messages transmitted?!?!?!

Forgive me for being tactless here... But that just sounds absurd! (Maybe I'm just crazy, but that sure doesn't sound good to me.) Surely a straight to archive solution of some sort or other would be preferable -- unless someone is actually *browsing* every single message that goes through the mail servers! (OMG!!!!!) And even if they had to do this, wouldn't it be better to organize the messages into groups based on sender or something like that?? -- HELL... Why wouldn't they just store to a high-performance database instead of mail folders!?!

(((Wow!! -- That's just... Whoa! -- Like just, well... Wow!!)))

...Okay, flabbergast mode is now off.... Back to your regularly schedu-- (oh, my goodness!) um... I mean --regularly scheduled mailing list.
