According to http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_qanda_item09186a0080159963.shtml
It should be:
Q. Can I use a Supervisor Engine 720 with a WS-X6816-GBIC card?
A. Yes, but you must first upgrade the on-board DFC to a new DFC3 using the part
number WS-F6K-DFC3A.
A. The only stipulation is that a line card with the current generation DFC must
be removed or upgraded to the new DFC3 to work with the Supervisor Engine 720.

just my 2 cents worth. I also looked at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/ prod_module_installation_guide09186a0080163594.html#wp60133
and quoted in there is " Important Note: You cannot have a DFC in a system with a Supervisor Engine 720."
could be important

The c6509 with Sup720 can handle 720Gbps of switching traffic in total, but what happens if I transfer 40Gbps from one slot to the other slot with 4x10GE (since we have 8 10GE ports)? As far as I know the c6509 has a 8Gbps backplane and therfor you shouldn't be able to transfer more then 8Gbps from one slot to another, or am I wrong in this one?
The buildt-in switching fabric can handle 40Gbps
Using dCEF it would be possible to transfer 40Gbps of traffice within one slot but not between slots or not?
You are able to transfer 40Gbps of traffic between two slots as well
Have a look http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/ products_qanda_item09186a0080159963.shtml for more information
