RIGHT. That's what the post was about. And setting the hostname as I described has corrected this "Linux" configuration problem (not a "courier" problem). The whole point is that this is NOT a courier problem, but if people running courier experience this, they should make sure that their hostname is set properly.

That is one reason I did not install Courier MTA, only the IMAP part from Debian packages. I am more familiar with Postfix and there are books to help me with Postfix (Are there books for Courier?) and

I'm afraid that I'm not aware of any Courier books.

You are warned at the start of the installation manual to "Read this document in its entirety before entering a single command". And you are best to heed this warning! However, the install info alone currently is missing some things (like information on the esmtphelo file...), so I'd further recommend reading every man page before issuing a single command as well. And then re-read all of these things before you upgrade to a new version. And before you build/install it on a different machine... But whatever you do, again read the entire website and all of the source code before you dare post to the courier-users list :-P

Of course, if you decide to go with Courier, I'm sure friendly people like Bill and Michelle would be happy to help you!!!

In all seriousness, the system is very fully featured and I do prefer it to any other "complete" mail system that I've looked at.

Best of luck!
