MONOCOTS II
and
3rd INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON GRASS SYSTEMATICS AND EVOLUTION
- An international conference on the comparative biology of the Monocotyledons - To be held in Sydney, Australia, September 1998
----------------------------------------------------------
FIRST CIRCULAR ---------------------------------------------------
The conference follows the successful "Monocotyledons: classification and evolution", held in 1993 at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. Participants expressed enthusiasm for another conference to allow us to follow up studies then in progress and to examine other areas of interest to workers on monocot groups.
Papers and posters will cover the following topics as they affect both higher level classification of the monocots and classification within particular groups such as grasses and orchids: * Systematics * Morphology and anatomy * Developmental and evolutionary processes * Reproductive biology * Macromolecular studies * Biochemical diversity * Biogeography
Concurrent meetings will be devoted to particular groups within the monocots. Interest has already been expressed in organising specialist meetings on the grasses, aroids and sedges. Please indicate on the following form if you would be interested in arranging meetings on other groups.
There will be a mixture of invited and contributed papers and posters. It is planned to publish the proceedings.
VENUE: The conference will be held at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, over the week beginning 28 September 1998.
FIELD WORK: The southern Spring is a good time to see the monocots in the wild in Australia. Coming to this conference will also provide you with an opportunity to visit other areas in the Asian-Pacific region. Details of organised field trips will be given in the second circular.
FURTHER INFORMATION: A second circular and registration form will be sent out in 1996. To assist planning, please print out the following form and post it to:
Mrs Karen Wilson Monocots II Royal Botanic Gardens Mrs Macquaries Road SYDNEY NSW 2000 AUSTRALIA
