I have tried installing and reinstalling courier-mta several times now. POP3 and IMAP work fine, as does remote delivery (client -(smtp)-> server -> (remote server) and local->local (echo "To: jason | /usr/lib/courier/bin/sendmail". But remote client -(smtp)-> server -> (local) does not succeed. Syslog errors as follows:

Does anyone know what could cause this? Too Many Files open doesent tell me much, and mailing list archives/courier faq havent provided any leads. The machine is OpenBSD 2.8, ./configure'd with the most basic options, nothing non-standard.. only options set were user=mail group=mail. I disabled sendmail (that comes with OpenBSD), so it is NOT running, however the binaries are still intact. make check went through without incident except for a fork() call failing repeatedly, which when i ran the script a second time worked fine. Glitch? OS Related? I Dont know, but this is the only problem im having.

I have tried using both ./Maildir and maildrop as options for local delivery..

Any leads you can provide would be excellent as I want to get this resolved ASAP!
