I've finally got this all built. Once I got home and could see the console, I saw the out of memory issues. As advised by Federico, I added a 2GB swap partition and then the RPMs built.

That looks like a bit of a bug with GCC to me, but I've not looked at the code or the compile process yet, so I'll log a bug with the appropriate organisation / group once I work out what is causing this.

Thanks again all for the help! I'm finally prepared and ready to migrate from Fedora Core to Centos and end this silly annual outage that's starting to annoy the people I provide mail for. Granted, they only pay me in beer and dinners, but beer and dinners are very important to me ! :D
