This is a ping to try to get attention for this PR.

I have not heard a response from the MAINTAINER or anyone else.

This port is *really* useful for those of us running Netsaint/Nagios, or insert your favorite monitoring system, as it provides an out of band method of notifying us when there are problems with the network.
