frankly I did not, but a class loader can not unload if any of its classes is hard referenced. That means as long as the thread is running you have a class of that class loader and it is hardreferenced by java itself. So it is a requirement for the loader to be unloaded that the thread is no longer active. the context loader reference is a rference from the class, but if the class is no longer reachable, the context loader is also no longer reachable. since the class is the problem, setting the context loader to null does most probably not help
