Ok problem fixed.

You know when sometimes you have a fit of stupidity which equals a user ........
I was having one of those moments for a few days. Sorry.

As pointed out by Roland, the user name specified on my client was: 'mailaddr'
as opposed to: 'mail@domain.com'.

Yes it was as simple as that. *blush*

I am still not sure why the authuserdb and authcram binaries were not installed.
I was compiling on a different computer that the one that courier-imap is
running on. I was using 'spasm' (slackware package maker) to create the tarballs
which I used on the mail host. I will look at spasm as to why that was not happening.
