A bit early to give up, isn't it? I would suggest that everybody concerned about this issue should write to the European patent office to oppose this ludicrous patent, as was suggested in the original post.

If anyone on this group has any expertise on patent law and could post guidelines on points that should be addressed in such letters, that would be especially helpful.

Of course it would be entirely inappropriate for anyone to suggest that the two "colleagues" taking out that patent should never again get a grant or paper through the peer review process, but we have no control over all those potentially very upset reviewers, do we?
