For me the problem is the hardware mostly and some documents will be realy welcome as Pietro mentioned. As for the multi-year dedication i don;t think that will be such issue. Another thing is that time will be needed to get on the right track.

Low-level docs to get started diving into sys/${ARCH}/${ARCH}.. Not that easy...
