Are there any known issues with courier on redhat 8 ? I seem to remember something about courier not liking gcc 3 ... is that resolved, or am I off my rocker?

I'd like to use RH8 if people think courier's fine there...

Since you're using Red Hat, and you're trying to build a RPM for Red Hat, the spec file rightfully assumes that your mysql install is Red Hat's own MySQL install, instead of some random RPM that you grabbed from someplace else. Otherwise, you'll have to figure everything out on your own.
