With Courier you don't need hacks like that. Courier supports authenticated SMTP for relay control. That's the right way to solve this problem.

thanks a lot for your prompt reply. i assume you mean the courier _mailserver_ (smtp) supports this ? I'm using qmail, and for severeal reasons, I have to keep with this mailserver. do you have any suggestions, how i can establish "smtp-after-imap" with the courier-iamp server and the qmail smtp server ? thanks and greetings, Barbara (i'm just trying smtp-poplock http://www.davideous.com/smtp-poplock/ maybe this will work...)
