This creates complexity for distributors to package Courier. In order to provide users the greatest amount of flexibility when using Courier, there would have to be a package for every combination of the available services, or force users to run all services. Having services such as Fax, and UUCP that are not as widely used could lead to security holes and other issues.

Both the fax and the uucp modules are completely disabled until they are explicitly configured.

Just because processes called 'courierfax' and 'courieruucp' are running it doesn't mean that they're going to do anything. In fact, they'll be sleeping until the server gets shut down.

What would it take to have courier support a more dynamic approach to the modules? I'd be willing to help patch Courier to support this functionality.

Nothing needs to be patched. These modules are already disabled by default.

Feel free to try to send a fax, or forward mail via UUCP, and see what happens.
