Hello all,
I repent in dust and ashes. Right there in the makehosteddomains man page, a VERY CLEAR note about how to accomplish this. Somehow I just breezed right on by this and posted despite my own pet peeve about people not getting their answer the docs! Sorry to trouble everybody.
Thanks, Dan

Hello everyone,
I have a question about aliases within courier. Lots of folks ask about aliases, and I see from the questions and the docs that you can redirect all mail for a virtual domain using the following example alias:
@myvirtdomain.com: someothername
However, I require something to match sendmail's virtusertable in its ability to re-insert the *username*. For example, I want all mail to us...@mail.domain.com to be rewritten as us...@domain.com, since us...@domain.com is what's in my userdb. With sendmail's virtusertable, I do this:
@mail.mydomain.com: %1@mydomain.com
This way, I don't send ALL messages for mydomain.com to one address, which would be useless in my particular setup. Instead, I can just guarantee that if somebody decides to send mail to jo...@mail.mydomain.com (which they shouldn't really do, since they should use jo...@mydomain.com), it will be re-mapped to jo...@mydomain.com, and fr...@mail.mydomain.com will become fr...@mydomain.com, etc.
All I've see is the big catch-all for courier aliases that I mentioned above. Is there any trick to getting the "%1" functionality of the sendmail virtusertable? I'd sure hate to have to explicitly enumerate all appropriate users in the alias files just so I can accept [mail.]domain.com addresses in virtual domains, e.g .:
[in aliases file] fr...@mail.mydomain.com: fr...@mydomain.com spi...@mail.mydomain.com: spi...@mydomain.com hun...@mail.mydomain.com: hun...@mydomain.com . . . ...yikes.
Thanks for all your help--I think I'm about ready to go with my setup...
Regards, Dan
