I'm having a problem that I know has been reported by a lot of other people around July / August of this year but I can't find any solution to it either on the searchable mailing lists or on other forums. Basically the problem is a hang on install as described in the section of e-mail below:
I [...] run 'mysql_install_db' and it :
[root]# mysql_install_db --force Creating db table Creating host table Creating user table Creating func table Creating tables_priv table Creating columns_priv table
Then nothing..... it hangs and sits there. Have to ^z and kill each one of these jobs every time.
So I 'rpm -e' all the mysql packages and reinstall from RPM...it's going along all nice when all it gets to the automatic mysql_install_db and it hangs again!! ARGH!!
I have tried all the advice I could find but, like most of the respondents, was unable to get the install completed. I am installing 3.23.28-1 on Red Hat 6.1 (can't upgrade due to other dependencies) using the RPM distribution. Also, I'm limited in that (a) I can't reinstall the OS from scratch on the box o fix this and (b) haven't got another machine or distibution on which I can run this. Any advice you could give me regarding this would be *very* much appreciated.
(P.S. I'm actually just trying to get Bugzilla up and runnig and don't need MySQL other than for that so if anyone has any other suggestions (polite, please!) feel free)
Many thanks, Robin.
