G'day listizens,

I am wrestling with an Ubuntu Server 6.06 mail config where I want to use a few virtual accounts to direct mail to various people. The SMTP and firewall (shorewall) all seem to be happy - I can send and receive mail from the host (even to the virtual account) but....can not get authdaemon to authenticate a virtual user session for my courier-pop service. There is not much useful diagnostic info in the logs except a terse message that the logon is being rejected (LOGIN FAILED).

My /etc/courier/pop3d contains AUTHMODULES="authdaemon" but I am wondering

If that's what it contains, then you must be running ancient code that nobody cares about, any more.

Upgrade to the current version of Courier.

whether I should also include "authpam"?

PAM is for system users, not virtual users.
