Given where we are right now in -current, would it be sensible to consider finding a way to disable devices before ejecting them? I'm plenty willing to have to "shut down" a card before removing it, but having no way to do so at the moment, I will shortly be fully shutting down the laptop I'm writing this on just so I can put it away.

To put it another way.. whether the problem is impossible to solve or just very very hard to solve, if a solution is not imminent, it may be time to at least find a workaround.

In PAO, there is some ability to power-down a card, which is a good thing. The amount of code required to add that functionality is not too difficult, but I think Warner's got enough on his plate for now.

However, I'll bet if someone took out the 'relevant bits' out of the PAO release and submitted them, they might find their way into stock FreeBSD. ;)

(Note the words 'relevant bits'.)

Nate
