Hi Jeff and people,
I was reading the install docs at courier web site. My scenario is this: I have many registered users at my Courier mail system, I don't permit relay, people need to use MS Outlook to send messages while they are connected from others public networks.
So I think that "Authenticated smtp" is the right option in order to let the users send messages from other networks than mine, using MS Outlook. But I've just configured the Outlook client, setting "My server requires authentication" and initiating the session with the user and password that they already have. But it doesn't run....I get the error message corresponding to "Relay is not permitted".
Questions: what happens ??? Any other setings in my Outlook ??? Is ESMTP needed to authenticate smtp outgoing ???
Thanks again, and sorry for interrupting you.
Alejandro

I'm a bit confused by your messages, Alejandro. What question are you asking? If you are asking how to enable smtp authentication for all the email users already on your courier server, then you don't need to do anything. It's already setup and working. Existing users can just authenticate and relay mail from anywhere.
If you are asking how to add users to courier then you should first read the INSTALL document. This has A LOT of information on how to configure courier and how to add users. Once you've looked at that and decided exactly what it is you want to do, then write again with your specific questions.
I hope the helps.
