The scenario you suggested doesn't work (as you surmised) as that is exactly what I was trying and got a "No Such Domain" for the post...@domain.com-X@localhost address. I was barking up the wrong tree.

Then Daniel Biddle chimed in (thanks Daniel) and said, "Put a username (real or virtual) in the aliases file, not an e-mail address." Ding. The dim bulb here got brighter as the pieces connected.

Now I've identified the mindset that leads to these initial blunders in understanding Courier and virtual domains. I'm sure you already know this but don't you get tired of answering the same virtual domain questions every other day?

The problem is the vchkpw/vpopmail syntax of qmail's virtualdomains file

domain.com : domain.com

that throws a few people for a loop (so to speak) in understanding Courier. We want to keep doing this, It's what we've learned to do. Got a virtual domain with vchkpw? Put domain:domain in virtualhosts.

You CANNOT do this with Courier. Perhaps a FAQ entry explaining this for the next vchkpw-conditioned person who comes along.
