Test pcre regexps with Philip Hazel's pcretest; if you have the pcre libraries on your machine at all, you very probably have pcretest.

That's not to say that maildrop's pcre support is always pcre compatible, but for what you're trying to do it should work well enough. It's what I often do for Postfix.
