Hello,

I am using maildrop with a number of filter rules to sort incoming email into various mailboxes. It works like a charm for my new email that I download with fetchmail.

However, I have many old, unsorted mailboxes from before I started using maildrop. Some of these mailboxes are maildir and some are mbox.

Can anyone recommend a utility with which I can run these old mailboxes through maildrop in order to sort their contents?

Thank you,

For the mbox files do this:

reformail -s maildrop < mbox_file

This will cause the whole mbox file to be broken into individual messages that are then (re)processed by your current maildrop configuration. The reformail program comes with maildrop; see the man page.

For the maildir files, just copy the old maildir directory tree to somewhere under your new maildir tree. Then you can move messages around from within your IMAP-capable email client using drag'n'drop.
