What version are you running? I have a server running with release 1.2, and it's incredibly slow at deleting and creating files. XFS has a lot of nice features, but I've never seen any benchmark suggesting that it was creating and deleting files was a fast operation. For a mail server spool, it's probably a really poor choice.
