Hi Jess,
FYI we are currently working on the integration of at least the MBeans tab into VisualVM for local and probably remote connections.
The remaining JConsole tabs could be added later on after some functionality overlapping issues have been resolved so we can have a much nicer integration between the two tools.

There is *so* much that could be easily done here. jconsole could (and should) be put to shame.
In the near term, however, one should at the very least be able to launch jconsole for local processes running under the same user via a local connection. [Yes, I know this requires calling an internal Sun API to do solely via process id, but it would still be helpful.]
