Gully; You're absolutely right! In my haste to help, I neglected to say that this should be the last approach; especially, since some are not comfortable in the Registry. However, even though it's sitting on his desktop and it's a Program File; which you could view through Properties and possibly uncheck the Read Only block, removing it through the ControlPanel>ProgramFiles>SketchUp will delete the main core of the application. Only trouble, sometimes loose files are left with their additional strings or broken files scattered throughout the Registry; where removal through the Registry will be the only remedy for that. AND SET A RESTORE POINT before you start! Thanks for your suggestion.

ykyrys, it's the distribution file, not the executable program file. In any event, he said it was sitting on the desktop; why send him to the Program Files directory?

Beav, try right-clicking the file and selecting Properties. See what kind of security attributes there are. You may simply have to uncheck Read Only. Or there may be a command box that offers you the option to Unblock the file. If those don't work, let us know what other security settings you can see.

I'd hold off on hacking the Reigistry until you get desperate, and you'd probably want to set a system restore point before you do.
