it seems to me that the point here is being missed ... too much focus seems to be on what one can do with the data, *if one can get it* there does not seem to be enough of a focus on (1) getting missing data,
including (1a) keeping data updated, and (2) evaluating the true quality of existing data ...
APNI/APC and IPNI understands this and there are ongoing staff employed to do it.
plants and (named) fungi are relatively easy cases, but most (named) organisms on Earth are arthropods, for which there are huge data gaps ...
I have spoken again with the plants... it's not their problem and they still don't care...
