Agreed, String, no need to republish. I have done that several times, and the changes to the meta data of the gadgets are picked up automatically, usually in about 2 weeks.

Yeah, you need to republish it.
Sorry Matt, but I don't think you do. My experience with many different gadgets is that the directory will automatically refresh every 1-2 weeks. Re-submitting your XML is neither necessary nor helpful. OTOH, it doesn't hurt anything either, so if it makes you feel better go right ahead. :^)
Also the gadget directory will typically serve a gadget on a 1-2 week cache, so people finding your gadget through that service will have to wait a while. But users using a direct link to reference the gadget XML should be able to view changes immediately.
Again, I'm going to contradict you here. Although the directory itself has a 1-2 week cache, that's only for the directory listing details, not for the XML that users get. The cache for that is 1-2 *hours*, and it doesn't matter how they get to it.
Of course, if someone goes directly to your XML (as in "http:// mydomain.com/mygadget.xml"), they'll get the latest version as this bypasses the iGoogle cache entirely.
