I am using mysql with asp and V interdev and iis. Now I did create the user directly in the database by using the mysql client. This way I created the user with password and certain privileges. In the odbc panel you put the user name and password as well as the name of the database. If you do not have a special user you always can put 'root' as username. This one exists always. Letting the username field blank might be (one of) the reason(s) why it is not working. To create a user you connect to mysql with a client. switch to database mysql (must be root for this) There a three tables (use command 'SHOW TABLES;'). You just put a new user with the privileges you want into that table. Quit the client and do a 'mysqladmin --reload' this is going to load the new user into the database. Now you are set to go.
