I thought I would just tag on to this discussion and post a pointer to me RSS Feed Reader gadget: http://www.mattkruse.com/google/rss2.xml

It has a ton of features that improve on Google's built-in feed reader, IMO. Things like customizing the display of each item returned, auto-refresh, highlighting new items that pop in, auto retries, automatically avoiding feed caching (to be improved soon), etc. I like it a lot, and I use it exclusively for my rss feeds. I just wish it was as easy to add into my page as the built-in google rss reader, by perhaps specifying my own default rss reader gadget!

Hi,

This brings up a good question I have been wondering myself. Before, you would not need to make a gadget to have your feed show up, but there were some recent updates to how the gadget directory works and I see that my feeds don't show up in searches anymore like they use to. The only things being returned are my gadgets that are in the Google Directory.

* Dann, can you please clarify why the feed results were removed and will they be reintegrated again? Do you need to submit your feeds now?

I do see ones like this using the built in feed reader

http://www.google.com/ig/directory?hl=en&root=%2Fig&dpos=top&num=24&u...

Best guess is it was flooding the directory with non-gadget items/ results, so they limited it to the approved ones only.

As for my examples, I butchered an example (sample code) that was in the gadget developers guide, then as features were released I added them into my gadget. Like Dynamic Tabs, List Items and Analytics etc. I also asked for some help, suggestions and feedback from this group too.

re: not easy to find in the gadget documentation how this can be done best.

I agree, It just gives you an "engine" to work with and it's kinda up to you to decide what to to do with the results it return. ;-)

If you need help with your gadgets then feel free to ask for help in this group, we all do 8)

Hope that helps, and hopefully Dann (or adam) can clarify a bit about the feeds in the directory

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. I appreciate it.

I also found the functionality to create the buttons. But can I then still add it to directory of gadgets? This would be indeed the easiest way without coding.

About your examples. Did you create them yourself or is some template you found? There are so many "feed" gadgets which look the same. I'm wondering if these feed providers created the gadget themselves or Google has done it. This would explaing why it's not easy to find in the gadget documentation how this can be done best.

Cheers, Marcel

Hi,

Maybe what your looking for is just using Googles built in Feed Reader (no coding required). Just add your feed by URL. (if I am thinking of the right gadget your referring to)

You can also make a button for your site so others can easily add it too. Try here >>http://www.google.com/webmasters/add.html

Does that help?

To be more precise.

I just want to create a gadget which exactly looks like the CNN.com news (and all other new feeds). I would imagine that there is a template available in which only the url to the feed needs to be changed.

I want to create a simple Google Gadget Feed, just like e.g. the CNN.com news feed. I also want to add it to the directory of available items.

Is there any example code how to create this such a simple Feed reader?- Tekst
