I installed mysql-3.23.39-pc-solaris2.8-i386.tar.gz into /usr/local and
created a link to it from /usr/local/mysql. My machine is a Compaq deskpro
running Solaris 8. As soon as I try to run mysqld I get a segmentation fault
(core dump).
I download the source code and compiled it. Then I used
make_binary_distribution.sh to make a binary distribution and it works fine.
I noticed that the binary from www.mysql.com was missing the
mysql_install_db and mysql.server files (they were 0 length). Is there any
chance that some other important file is missing?
