Some pretty large organizations are doing this, for example (I'm a Postfix person, was Exim 4 and it's more or less the same there) with amavisd-new and SA. They even run anti-virus shit on them. It is a frustrating situation to be put in - stuck between a rock and a hard place with it not being my machine.. He wants SPAM filtering, he doesn't want to upgrade the hardware, but still wants everything to run like lightning..

Get a new "He"; one who understands? That's what I did, but I'll grant that it cost me much of my remaining sanity, remaining money and time on this planet.
