I think this is a bug. Can you clarify where you are seeing it? When I test this with 1.68.1, the title in the table instance is correct, but the title in the List of Tables at the front of the book has the entire biblioentry in it, which is wrong. So I think it is a bug in the mode="toc" template.

I've just noticed that adding a xref (to a biblioentry) in the title of a table results in the inclusion of the whole biblioentry in the title. I wanted to have a '[Reference]', though.

That's a bit unintuitive. Bug or feature?
