Bill, you'll need to use GNU make in order to build.

Also, you probably shouldn't be using mit-pthreads on HPUX 10.20. Our manual has instructions under the 'HP-UX Version 10.20 Notes' section for how to compile from source. If you use DCE threads, please make sure you've applied any related OS patches from HP.
