It depends a great deal on more than just your database choice. Linux, IMO, will give you better uptime and fewer crashes. I also believe that Linux is FAR more secure than Windows. Also, Linux provides for better "remote support". In other words, you can telnet into a Linux box and do anything. With Windows your only choice is something like "PC*Anywhere", which, IMO, is a joke.

in general i agree. i would say two things tho. linux _can be made_ to be more secure. some out of the box linuxs are not very secure. and secondly, i'd suggest ssh to telnet.

Having said that, Windows can deliver good performance. Windows also threads Java better than Linux (this with JDK1.3 and 1.2). In general, Windows has a better TCP stack performance profile than Linux. You get better network throughput under very heavy networking loads.

You need to consider a number of issues when making your choice.

Hi all,

I would appreciate it if anyone can offer me some insights as to which is the
preferred platform that I should use with mySql? Linux vs. Win2k, and what are
the reasons for the choice.
