To Simon's PS below, I have tried building p4python on Solaris 8 (SunOS 5.8) and didn't have any luck. I didn't have time to work on it extensively, so I gave up. I don't have any details about the errors I ran into readily available, but if anyone does get it built, I would be interested in any info or tips.

Thanks. Just copying the list for archive purposes.
I will update the docs on this when I get a moment.

Not something I have tried. The Darwin option seems to be the one to go for, but I wonder if the issues identified by Tony Smith for p4ruby may be relevant:
Well that's improved matters a lot. I followed the notes (apart from using gcc2) and it built and loaded OK. A few basic tests show it communicating fine with the server.
I'm getting some unexpected errors from my scripts however. e.g. it claims the Client field is missing from my new client spec when it quite clearly isn't missing. I'll try some more and let you know.
Cheers,

PS Anyone tried solaris yet? That's next on my list.
