Ok, there are some broken BIOS, but I don't know any server hardware with
this problem. Mostly this is a problem with PC hardware and in my opinion
PC hardware is not useful for a cluster of a size wich depends on >4GB
RAM.

Pretty much any newish Linux distro will support 4GB+ RAM. However not
all BIOS/chipsets support 4GB RAM.
I have a bunch of Intel P4 servers here which only support 3GB RAM as
they have no solution for the PCI memory hole, despite being advertised
as supporting "4GB" RAM. I put 4GB RAM in them and the system only saw
3GB at POST (before the OS even loaded).
Most Opteron and Xeon chipsets will support 4GB+ RAM, but with older P4
or Athlon systems you need to be careful.
Google "pci memory hole" for more info.
